Fall Update
Thanksgiving has come and gone and my, what an absolutely gorgeous Thanksgiving weekend it was…I’m sure it broke temperature records, and one of the nicest Thanksgivings I can remember. I hope everyone had a great weekend with your family. It would have been a great weekend to go camping!! Thanksgiving always brings back memories of my mom. Mom and dad always did a big turkey dinner which usually consisted of at least twenty five family members. I don’t know how she managed to cook for so many.
I ended up doing my turkey on the Friday before Thanksgiving (I usually have it Saturday or Sunday), but we had taken our turkey out the weekend before to make some room in the freezer (all those veggies I froze from my garden)…so it had to be cooked. It actually ended being a good thing, as it was the only night our daughter Amanda and her boyfriend Sean would be home for dinner; it was also Rod’s birthday.
Everyone had worked that day and although dinner was late, it was delicious all the same. Along with turkey, we had mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping (if you’ve never had this, it’s really good), green bean casserole (also really yummy), I had also made a coleslaw and of course stuffing. We always make lots of stuffing…the girls are vegetarians, so I have to make extra stuffing that I don’t cook in the turkey, we just wrap the extra stuffing in foil and cook in the oven. I had made a butter pecan cake with pumpkin and carrots for Rod’s birthday; although we were all so stuffed from dinner we could only manage small pieces.
Last weekend was just horrible weather-wise, the weather has turned; we’ve had lots rain and wind, definitely a nip of fall in the air. Lost our power on Saturday, we were all very happy when it came back on in the evening.
On Sunday, Rod was working on our Camping Blog, we continue to try to update go camping Canada and add to our blog to make it a better blogging experience. Rod was trying to add Google maps, it just wouldn’t work; he tried things over and over, so no idea why it wouldn’t show up…if you’ve never worked on a website it can at times be very frustrating. Last night Rod sat down and thought he’d try to see if he could get it working and whatever changed, finally success!
Sorry, I’m a little slow at getting to our blog and getting it updated… fall is such a busy time, my garden takes a lot of time with freezing, pickling and preserving. We’ve also been trying to get our wood for the winter finished. I will be working on part two of our Lake Superior Camping Adventure over the next couple of days…I’ll be back…Heather
